The Supreme Court of India today ruled that all women are entitled to a safe and legal abortion process and making any distinction between a married and an unmarried woman is unconstitutional.
This ground-breaking judgment, given by the bench of Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice AS Bopanna and Justice JB Pardiwala, said that women can seek an abortion during their pregnancy in the term of 20-14 weeks.
Now, Tollywood actress Poonam Kaur, who needs no introduction, responded to this judgement by the apex court.
Supporting this order, she said, “A woman has every right to decide what she wants to do with the child, whether married or unmarried. I have seen women impregnate themselves to keep the marriage and their financial security, where the man has to suffer all his life in many ways. Women should not be using this power of reproducing as a weapon for selfish reasons.”
