The Congress party has a rich heritage behind it. The grand old party played a big part in the freedom fight and ruled independent India. Till 2014, the party was in power in many places, and slowly the party lost its grip and glory. Congress has always been led by the Gandhi family and the trend is almost getting broken now.
The senior leaders are showing interest in running the Congress President polls. The other day, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot opted out of the polls and said he is not interested in running the polls. Now the election episode took another big twist with a new name entering the list.
Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge came to the scene all of a sudden and he filed the nomination. As many as 30 people are backing him. After the nomination, Kharge said he decided to run the polls for a change and urged the leaders to support him.
Now the Congress President polls episode is going to be a three-faced one with three leaders trying their luck. Jharkhand Congress leader KN Tripathi, Shashi Tharoor, and Mallikarjun Khadge filed their nominations. Friday is the last date for the polls.
The election episode is going to be interesting as three leaders carry different backgrounds. Mallikarjun Khadge is saying he is fighting for the change, while Shashi Tharoor is saying he is hoping a friendly polls.
Jharkhand Congress leader KN Tripathi has a different story. As he is from a farmer’s family, he is hopeful that that might help him in winning the party. Khadge is backed by 30 members and former Madhya Pradesh CM Digvijaya Singh also said he will back him.
