The upcoming Dasara festival in 2024 promises to be a visual extravaganza for Tollywood moviegoers, as the three most influential families – Mega, Nandamuri, and Akkineni – are gearing up for a box-office battle with their highly anticipated releases.
For decades, these families, while maintaining a cordial off-screen relationship, have engaged in a healthy competition on screen, with each striving to deliver successful films, break records, and enthrall their dedicated fan bases. While intense fan wars were once prevalent, recent years have witnessed a more composed approach with strategic release scheduling to minimize direct competition.
However, Dasara 2024 seems to be an exception. Here’s a breakdown of the impending clash:
Powerstar Pawan Kalyan is leading the charge for the Mega family with his film ‘#OG’, directed by Sujeeth and produced by DVV Danayya. Scheduled for release on September 27th, the movie has already generated significant buzz, and the team is unwavering in its commitment to the date. Pawan Kalyan’s return from his election campaign is expected to expedite the film’s completion. ‘#OG’ is poised for a tough box-office battle against NTR’s pan-Indian release, ‘Devara’.
Young Tiger NTR Jr. (Tarak), representing the Nandamuri family, is set to enthrall audiences with ‘Devara Part – 1’, directed by the acclaimed Koratala Siva. This magnum opus, scheduled for release on October 10th, marks Tarak’s immediate project following the phenomenal success of ‘RRR’. Produced by NTR Arts and Yuva Sudha Arts, the film aims to capitalize on the Dasara holidays and features Anirudh Ravichander as the music composer and Janhvi Kapoor as the leading lady. However, ‘Devara Part – 1’ will not have a solo run at the box office, as Naga Chaitanya’s ‘Thandel’ is slated for release a day later on October 11th.
This Dasara season presents a unique opportunity for Tollywood fans to witness a clash between three generations of iconic families – Pawan Kalyan representing the elder generation, followed by NTR Jr. and Naga Chaitanya representing the younger generation. It will be interesting to see how audiences react to this confluence of star power, compelling narratives, and diverse cinematic experiences.
