Major streaming platforms like Amazon Prime Video and Netflix have unveiled their upcoming content slates, featuring big-budget Indian movies for post-theatrical release. However, the highly anticipated sci-fi film “Kalki 2898 AD” starring Prabhas is noticeably absent from these announcements.
Scheduled for a May 9th release, rumors suggest a potential delay due to upcoming elections. With an official decision pending from Vyjayanthi Movies, fans seem to support the postponement for a strategic release.
Adding to the intrigue, the movie’s OTT (Over-the-top) streaming rights remain unconfirmed. Industry sources claim that proposals from major platforms haven’t met the producers’ expectations. This comes amidst reports of substantial deals for other films, with “Game Changer” fetching 105 crores and “Devara” (Part 1) reportedly securing 80 crores.
Given Prabhas’ immense national popularity and the star power of Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, and Deepika Padukone, “Kalki 2898 AD” is expected to command a premium price tag, possibly exceeding 150 crores. Streaming giants like Prime Video, Netflix, and potentially Disney+ Hotstar (partnering with Jio) are all believed to be vying for the coveted OTT rights.
