Ahead of 2021 TN Polls, Kamal Haasan gets a sigh of relief

Actor-turned-politician and Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) founder Kamal Haasan got a major sigh of relief ahead of the upcoming Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections that are slated to commence in 2021.

The Election Commission has allotted a “battery torch” as the party symbol for the upcoming Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu. Kamal Haasan confirmed the same on social media.

The actor took to the Microblogging site Twitter to announce the news of party symbol allotment in a short video. “We have been allotted torchlight symbol for all the 234 assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu,” Kamal said.

The Election Commission allotted “battery torch” for the MNM party after the party knocked on the doors of the Madras High Court last month to seek directives to allot battery torch as their party symbol.

MNM was allotted battery torch as the symbol for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The party managed to get a vote share of 3.77 percent.

However, the EC denied the battery torch symbol for Kamal’s party which made the actor moved the Madras Court. EC permitted MNM to use battery torch as party symbol for Puducherry elections.
