Alia Bhatt Blocks RRR’s Release?

For the past few days, rumors are rife that Rajamouli’s magnum opus creation, RRR will be hitting the silver screens next Sankranthi season. It was heard that RRR would be hitting the big screens across the globe on the 12th of January next year, marking the auspicious occasion of Sankranthi. But the latest developments pertaining to Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi are implying that RRR might not have a smooth Sankranthi release, given the fact that the Alia Bhatt starrer has locked 6th January as its release date.

Now that Gangubai has locked 6th January as its release date, it will be really tough for RRR to hit the silver screens on the 12th of the same month. There is a very strong reason behind this. Pen Studios, who are bankrolling Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai have bagged the all-India Hindi language distribution rights of RRR. Given the fact that Gangbai has locked 6th January as the release date, Pen Studios wouldn’t be willing to release RRR on the 12th of the same month as there would be less than a week’s gap between these two films.

Releasing Gangubai and RRR with under week’s gap will most certainly not be in the best interests of Pen Studios. While there might not be a direct clash between these two films in Southern India, there might be a serious head-on clash in the Hindi circuit. Moreover, releasing two of their biggest projects with less than a week’s gap will not suit Pen Studios’ financial interests. They will be wanting to make sure that there is a fair bit of gap between the release dates of these two biggies. If this is to go by, it appears to be that Alia Bhatt has blocked RRR’s Sankranthi release prospect by locking 6th January release.

That said, RRR has been postponed multiple times already and another postponement will greatly affect the financial prospects. So, the producer and the distributors will be eager to release the film at the earliest. With that in mind, there is no better release window for the film than Sankranthi. It would be really interesting to see how things pan out with these two highlight exciting and much anticipated projects.
