In almost all the regions, the final run of Sankranthi blockbusters Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo and Sarileru Neekevvaru has come to an end. The box office run is terrific for a month, but from February, other small films started occupying theatres. Later with movies like Bheeshma and HIT doing well, eventually that shine on Mahesh and Allu Arjun’s films got lost.
According to trade circuits, both the films managed a terrific number, but the difference in collections is pretty huge. As both Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo and Sarileru Neekevvaru claimed the same industry hit status, many felt that both might have collected similar figures. But in the final run, while Sarileru Neekevvaru has collected 130+ crores share, Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo managed to get 165+ crores share easily.
Looks like the overseas collections have taken its toll on Sarileru Neekevvaru as Mahesh failed to recreate any magic there. At the same time, while Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo got more theatres during the extended months, Sarileru Neekevvaru got restricted only to mass centres. Anyway, trade circuits indicated that Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo has collected almost 35 crores ‘share’ more thank Sarileru Neekevvaru.
In the end, big-ticket films should run like Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo and Sarileru Neekevvaru such that producers, distributors, buyers, exhibitors and all other indirectly employed benefactors of cinema will be laughing all the way to banks.
