Mumbai Police official stated that they served summons to filmmaker Anurag Kashyap in link with a rape case lodged against him by actress Payal Ghosh. Kashyap has been commanded to oblige the orders and he would appear tomorrow at 11 a.m before the Versova police on Thursday for further probe into the case.
Following a police complaint raised by Payal’s lawyer Nitin Satpute, the Versova police filed an FIR against Kashyap on September 22, the official told. In her complaint, the actress alleged that Kashyap sexually abused her and outraged her modesty in 2013.
On 28th Athawale met Mumbai’s joint commissioner of police Vishwas Nangare Patil along with Ghosh, urging an arrest against Anurag.
Subsequently on Tuesday, the actress and state Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale sought help from Maharashtra Governor B S Koshyari to initiate strict action against the director. After the meeting, Ramdas told media that the governor would escalate the issue to Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh and ensured required justice.
The Union minister had also asserted that his party members unanimously will mount a protest if the police do not detain Kashyap in a week. Last week, the Versova police registered the FIR against Kashyap under Indian Penal Code Sections 376 (I) (rape), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty,), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 342 (wrongful confinement).
