There are some scripts that suit certain artists. The magic they create onscreen cannot be recreated and when people try to replicate that, they end up disappointing everyone. This is the case with the latest Hindi release ‘Durgamati’ which happens to be the remake of the Telugu hit film ‘Bhaagmathie’.
Directed by Ashok, ‘Bhaagmathie’ featuring Anushka Shetty in the lead brought a lot of profits to everyone associated with the film and got decent reviews. Anushka was brilliant in her role and her screen presence was the biggest advantage of the film. The thriller film was driven to success by Anushka and there is no denying that fact.
But Bhumi Pednekar failed to create the same impact in Hindi. Despite being a talented actress, Bhumi doesn’t have the towering presence of Anushka and it is quite evident in the film. Also, the film’s supporting cast is miles behind the original film’s cast and their performance leaves a lot to be desired. Director Ashok who made ‘Bhaagmathie’ handled the remake too but he failed to bring the soul of the original into ‘Durgamati’.
