The Andhra Pradesh High Court has issued key orders on the YSRCP government’s Navaratnalu housing scheme for people below the poverty line category through various GOs.The high court on Friday issued orders not to proceed with the construction of houses under its ‘Navaratnalu-Pedalandiriki illu’ scheme.
It is known that the Jagan government has allotted one cent of land in urban areas and one-and-half-cent in rural areas to the poor to construct houses.
The High Court, which heard the cases of 128 petitioners who had approached the Court on the construction of houses, has issued a final judgment of 108 pages. Commented that the courts would intervene if government policy decisions violated fundamental rights. It has struck down several regulations issued by the government in respect of housing.
The HC said that the construction of housing complexes in such less area would not only cause health problems but also fire hazards and freshwater problems. Commented that it was unfair to force them to build houses without considering these.
It directed that a committee be set up with experts from the Union Ministry of Health, Housing and Environment regarding housing. It said it would take public advice and suggestions on the report.
