April Tension Begins For Babu

The month of April is going to be a crucial month for Andhra Pradesh CM Chandra Babu Naidu.Amidst various reports about the BJP government preparing to strike out at Chandra Babu, there is talk that some ministers and some IAS officers are also dreading the developments.According to talk in political circles, the ‘operation’ is likely to begin once the parliament sessions end.

However, BJP is being cautious and it is making sure that it has a strong case before making the final strike, as elections are fast approaching.Any wrong move can help Babu’s chances during elections by creating sympathy votes and it is being said that the BJP wants to play safe now than regret later.

Here are a few points that could turn trouble points for Babu in the coming days:

1. Stalling the Bhogapuram International Airport project. Since the tender was given to BJP approved AAI, instead of a private firm that Babu wanted, the project was scrapped. Though an official committee recommended otherwise, Babu got the cabinet to reject the proposal.

2. Discrepancies in Polavaram project works.

3. High level corruption during land acquisition at Polavaram.

4. Swiss challenge scam. Despite warnings from higher officials, a company was floated by signing contracts with Singapore-based firms. Though the financial and law departments suggested otherwise, Babu got the proposal ratified by the cabinet.

5. Fibre grid scam.

6. Siphoning of funds relating to plants in Amaravathi. Given the amount involved, the official has been absconding ever since.

7. Scam in Lokesh’s department. Major chunks of land was given away to Franklin Templeton and Innova Solutions. Despite objection from chief secretary, approvals were given to the above-mentioned firms. While the firms invested around Rs 450 crore, land value and infrastructural costs add up to Rs 650 crore for the government. Naturally, this has raised the question of validity of such a grant.

8. Playing with a different set of rules for every tender, the government has not only added to the confusion, but also helped shoot up corruption levels.

9. Multiple scams in water department.

10. Scams involving grant of industrial subsidies.

11. Corruption in Sarvasiksha Abhiyan.

12. Instead of using the cabinet to take constructive decisions on policy matters, many senior officials accuse Babu of relegating the cabinet to a mere body to put a stamp of approval on his scams and schemes.

Well, these are just some of the issues that could trouble Babu in the coming days. If one were to make note of all issues, then, one can bring out a book based on Babu’s corruption says a senior IAS official.
