Are political strategist Prashant Kishor’s strategies for the ruling TRS in Telangana inadvertently helping the BJP? Is he unwittingly strengthening the BJP in the state? Are his attacks on Modi and the BJP proving counter-productive? Is the BJP occupying the centre-stage of Telangana politics thanks to PK?
These are the questions that several TRS insiders are asking these days. They feel that the strategies of Prashant Kishore are slowly but surely making Telangana politics bipolar.
Originally, Telangana has a tripolar political setup with Congress and BJP vying for the second slot. Now, thanks to PK, the BJP is coming to the centre-stage. KCR’s personal attacks on PM Narendra Modi and T BJP chief Bandi Sanjay are said to be helping in building their image both at the Centre as well as in the state.
KCR’ decision not to attend the Samatha Murthy statue unveiling and also the biennial Medaram Jatara are said to be part of the PK strategy.
Similarly, KCR has given a break to the convention of having the Governor address both the houses. This too has brought the BJP into the public discourse. Thus, by his actions, KCR has brought the BJP into sharp public focus and this is only helping the BJP grow in stature.
TRS thinking heads feel that PK is following exactly the same strategy that he had followed in West Bengal. In West Bengal, the contest was bipolar. The Congress and the Left were irrelevant.
However, in Telangana, the politics are tripolar. This situation would actually benefit the TRS. However, by making it bipolar, PK is said to be inadvertently helping the BJP. Will KCR realise this and take corrective steps? Let’s wait and see!!
