B town drug scandal row: Delhi High court in favour of Rakul’s plea

Rakul Preet Singh has filed a plea in Delhi High Court against slander campaigning by media trials, after her named appeared in the drug scandal case initiated by the Narcotics Control Bureau in association with Sushant Singh Rajput’s demise case.

She, through her attorney presented that media reports are being run in repudiation with I&B Ministry rule.

Delhi High Court sought response of the Centre, Prasar Bharati and News Broadcasters Association to examine Rakul Preet’s solicitation to end any media reports from linking her with Rhea Chakraborty drug ring. It appealed to expeditiously conclude it including any interim directions that should be issued.

The court was in favour of Rakul’s plea, where it quizzed Rakul’s lawyer as to why they haven’t made any representation before the authority. The bench said to file a complaint against any of such channels. While the lawyer said the defamation is happening with multiple channels but not one. The bench suggested to file against atleast one such channel and they would issue the time frame for accused to decide on the complaint.

On the other hand, center stood by the argument that since the CBI is already been investigating Rhea’s drug case, media can atleast report things that are going on. Nonetheless, justice Naveen Chawla compelled them to have some ‘restraint’ as it could malign one’s image as the information is not yet revealed by the officers.
