In the last elections, YSRCP which waved the whole of Andhra Pradesh, could not show its full potential in Vizag. The four assembly seats concerning Vizag were bagged by TDP and now with the local polls around, the political heat is on the rise.
Back in 2007, when Vizag was made Greater Municipal Corporation, the first election was held. Late YS Rajasekhar Reddy was then CM and despite that the Congress party did not get majority. With the help of independents, Congress bagged the mayor seat.
After 13 years, the elections are going to be held and this time, the ruling party doesn’t want to get disappointing results. With the four MLAs, TDP’s strength can’t be underestimated here while at the same time, Jana Sena garnered good votes in the last elections and so this party can’t be rubbed off. Simultaneously BJP has good presence too in the beach city.
Amidst stiff competition, Jagan has appointed Rajya Sabha MP Vijaya Sai Reddy as the in-charge of UttarAndhra and he was also assigned the task of local polls in Vizag. In order to checkmate the oppositions, YSRCP is doing ‘Operation Akarsh’ and as part of it, the party has inducted former MLA Rahman and one more ex-MLA is in talks.
There are also reports that two current TDP MLAs are in touch with top brass of YSRCP and Vijaya Sai is said to be negotiating the terms and conditions.
The Vizag corporation polls are a big test for Vijaya Sai Reddy. Will his political strategies work out and win the Vizag Mayor is something, will show the work of Vijaya Sai and his prominence in the party.
