It’s an open secret that there is a huge shortage of vital drugs like Remdesivir and other essentials in the country. Despite the shortage, a few politicians and celebrities like Sonu Sood are supplying them to the needy.
Hearing a petition on the Covid management in the state, the Bombay High Court directed the state government to conduct a detailed probe on how the politicians and celebrities are procuring the vital medicines.
A bench of Justices Amjad Sayed and Girish Kulkarni heard a bunch of PILs filed in connection with the Covid situations in the state. Hearing the petitions, the court asked how come they are getting the supplies.
During the hearing, Advocate General Ashutosh Kumbhakoni told the Court that Sonu Sood and Zeeshan Siddique said they neither purchased nor stocked the supplies, but they served as a facilitator.
In response, the court said, their intention to help the needy is good, but the vaccine distribution lies with the Centre.
Additional solicitor general Anil Singh told the court that, in response to Centre’s letter, the drug manufacturers said that the medicines were not supplied directly to politicians and celebrities.
With the Bombay High Court directing the government to start a probe, the probe will start very soon to find out from where they are getting the supplies when the hospitals are also facing vaccine shortage.
