The long-pending Kapu reservation issue which once resulted in a tense situation in divided Andhra Pradesh was in the news right now after an MP had raised the topic in Parliament and extended his support for the demand. The rest of the country got to know about this with the MP’s speech.
BJP Rajya Sabha member G. V. L. Narasimha Rao had raised the topic and demanded that the reservation should be implemented to lend them a helping hand.
Calling the Kapu community a weaker section educationally and socially, the Rajya Sabha member had highlighted the importance of the movement. Saying that a bill to grant reservation for Kapus in educational institutions and government jobs was passed long back, GVL said that the reservation was not implemented.
Alleging that the Andhra Pradesh government is not implementing the reservations for Kapus in the state, G. V. L. Narasimha Rao had showered praises on BJP for its commitment towards empowering the Kapu community. He said that the BJP had appointed two people from the Kapu community as the state chief of AP BJP.
It has to be mentioned that, the YCP-led Andhra Pradesh government had decided to withdraw the cases that were filed against a few Kapu leaders in connection with the Kapu movement violence in 2016. Cases filed against Mudragada Padmanabham and others were withdrawn.
