Milkha Singh, also popularly called the ‘Flying Sikh’ died on late Friday night(June 18) following a month-long fight with the Coronavirus. He was 91-years of age and was conceded to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the PGIMER clinic in Chandigarh. He had tested negative for the a few days back however died because of post-COVID complications. His ill health began after losing his significant other Nirmal Kaur, a former volleyball captain who succumbed to the infection too.
Soon after the untimely death of the legendary sprinter, celebrities from the Bollywood film fraternity mourned his demise and paid due respects on social media. In 2013, filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra had made a film on the life of the Mika Singh featuring Farhan Akhtar in the lead. Farhan who had spent a lot of time with Milkha Singh during the filming schedules was among the first to pen an unfeigned note note for the icon.
“Dear Milka Ji, a part of me is still refusing to accept that you are no more. May be it’s the stubborn side I inherited from you…the side that when sets it mind will never give up”, read some part of his note. He went on to express his grief through long letter.
Akshay Kumar expressed his anguish on Twitter.
“Incredibly sad to hear about the demise of #Milka Singh ji. The one character I forever regret not playing on-screen! May you have a golden run in heaven, Flying Sikh. Om shanti, Sir”, the tweet read.
