Back in 2004, when Ravi Prakash came up with the idea of setting up TV9, many have laughed at him, but he made that into a successful venture with his tactics, intelligence and ability. And now that he’s ousted from the channel 15 years after its establishment, he’s said to be looking forward to starting another media house.
Well, starting up a channel when there is no competition around is quite easy. But starting a new channel from the scratch at this moment is quite tougher we have to say. There are few loyal journalists to Ravi Prakash who are still working in TV9 but they are being paid lakhs now. And if they ought to travel with Ravi Prakash’s new venture, they want the same kind of pay, which will be little tough for a startup, unless some biggie is backing the channel.
As there are rumours coming up that Ravi Prakash wants to start the channel with majority of self-investment such that there will be less burden from the investors who want wrest control on the content being aired, analysts say that it is not that easy. As Ravi got against both the ruling government of AP and Telangana as people close to them have got ousted from the channel, now his new team might not get super support from governments. So it’s better to have the backing of the likes of Reliance who have earlier offered him to head Network 18’s Telugu news channel.
Ravi Prakash is like a superstar who has done 100+ films already, but at the moment, you have to impress audiences again with your new movie as old craze won’t help run the show at the box office. So he has to do only a big-budgeted action bonanza and that is possible only when big corporates back him, an analyst opined. We have to see what Ravi Prakash will do.
