Can RRR transcend IPL popularity like Baahubali 2?

Baahubali 2 released on 27th April 2017 and became the movie to gross above Rs. 1500 crores just at Indian box office in various languages. Movie turned out be All Time record grosser in each language, specially in Hindi, it became the first 500 crores Nett grosser.

Avengers Infinity War and Avengers EndGame films from Hollywood released in all Indian languages during Summer seasons of 2018, 2019 and collected above 150 crores gross each. Avengers EndGame broke many records by collecting Rs. 337 crores at Indian box office. No other Hollywood film could come close to its collection prior to it or after it.

Well, all these three films used Summer season advantage to maximum extent and created such box office highs. However, during Summer season, Indian audiences are accustomed to watching IPL franchise cricket from past decade.

Even though the tournament has crossed 13 seasons, still it is the most popular cricket tournaments ever. Even World Cup T20 couldn’t attract same viewership as IPL did in the last season.

This time, IPL will happen in Maharashtra under strict COVID restrictions with two new teams added to the existing eight teams. The complete schedule will be out in a week or two. For now, we got to know that from 27th March, the tournament will begin and the final will be held in the last week of May.

IPL matches will be held daily without any gap and this means, if the tournament is interesting enough, the collections of the Summer big blockbusters will get affected during first and night show timings.

RRR, Acharya, Sarkaru Vaari Paata are releasing during the peak IPL season while F3 releases almost towards the end. RRR has to face IPL head on as the movie is releasing on 25th March and tournament begins on 27th March.

Can SS Rajamouli with Ram Charan and Jr NTR repeat the same magic at box office like he did with Prabhas, Rana Daggubati? Let’s wait and watch.
