Telugu Desam Party believes in one strong philosophy: it will go to any extent to help a person if it owns him up; and pull him down if he is a rival. It strictly follows this philosophy and also the caste which is its strong base.
In 2014 elections, power star and Jana Sena Party president Pawan Kalyan wholeheartedly supported the TDP-BJP combine and particularly, TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu.
Yet, this particular community backing the TDP did not take Pawan’s support positively. What is worse, they even criticised Naidu for giving too much importance to Pawan and the community to which he belongs.
Even during the release of Sardar Gabbar Singh, this caste group did not stand by Pawan and there was no change in the equations between the two communities.
However, things have suddenly changed at the time of the release of Katamarayudu. It was surprising to see TV9 chief executive officer Ravi Prakash, considered to be the key supporter of the TDP, gave a big speech.
Subsequently, this caste group intensely campaigned for this film in domestic and overseas markets. It is clearly evident that Naidu played behind-the-screen role in supporting Pawan.
In fact, this lobbying has not begun recently, but started when Pawan went to the US to participate in a seminar at Harvard.
There were reports that the TDP followers and fans of Nandamuri Balakrishna played a key role in extending unprecedented welcome to Pawan in the US. It is learnt clear instructions had gone to the cadre in the US from the TDP high command.
This has come to the fore again during the release of Katamarayudu. Naidu’s community which does not see eye to eye with Pawan’s community helped him in a big way. It also bombarded with the social media network with likes for Pawan’s films and dislikes for Bunny.
The TDP is of strong view that Pawan’s services are needed to retain power in 2019. For that, it has to ensure that his charisma should not go down at any cost. That is why the TDP high command has been instructing its cadres to see that Katamarayudu film does not become a flop; instead, they have to give a lot of hype to it.
The pro-TDP media too has been playing its part to promote Katamarayudu. A Telugu daily which is said to be pro-TDP does not give good ratings to any film, but for Katamarayudu, it gave full marks.
All the other media houses too are doing their bit to promote the film. Needless to say, Naidu and his community is behind this sudden love for Pawan!
