The arrest of TDP leader and former MLA Chintamaneni Prabhakar is turning out to be curiouser and curiouser and curioser. He was arrested in the Agency area of Chintapalli forest in Visakhapatnam district. He was picked up during a routine checkup in the Agency area for ganja smuggling and Maoists activities. More significantly, the former MLA gave incoherent and inconsistent replies to the police. The police have reportedly kept him in the Chintapalli police station.
However, Chintamaneni’s supporters say that he had gone to Narsipatnam to attend a wedding function and was returning while he was arrested. They said that the police have foisted a case against the former MLA with an intention to harass him. They say that he had earlier performed puja at Darakondamma temple in the Agency area. Earlier on Sunday morning, Chintamaneni participated in an anti-petrol price hike rally in Denduluru. The Denduluru police too filed a case against him for preventing the police from discharging their duties. Sources said Chintamaneni attacked SI on duty Ram Kumar for obstructing him. He also tried to obstruct the convoy of Denduluru MLA Abbaiah Chowdary.
Meanwhile, there are doubts as to whether Chintamaneni would be produced before the court on Monday as it was a holiday. The Vizag police handed over Chintamaneni to West Godavari police. Chintamaneni has several cases pending against him ever since the YSRCP came to power. He was arrested earlier in a case pertaining to the abuse of the Dalits.
