#Corona: Centre announces Rs 1.70 Lakh cr package

In this Corona outbreak, the poor and daily wage workers are severely affected. There has been an anticipating that PM Modi led union government would announce a package for them. However the Centre took their own sweet time to announce and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has come up with Rs 1.70 Lakh crore package.

Last year before the elections, like the Rythu Bandhu, the Centre came up with crop investment initiative to farmers for about Rs 6000 annually to a single farmers. Under the Corona package, the Centre will be paying Rs 2000 to 8.69 farmers in the first week of April. MGNREGA workers wages have been hiked by Rs 2000 and about 5 crore people will get the benefit.

For the health care workers who are tirelessly working, FM Nirmala has announced Rs 50 Lakh insurance per person. Under Pradhan Mantri Gareeb Kalyan Ann Yojna, 80 crore people are likely to get additional 5 kilos of rice or white per person and also one kilo of pulse.

The package has three months free cylinder to 3 crore people who are registered under Ujjwala scheme and Rs 31,000 crore is allotted to states to use it for the welfare of construction workers.

Overall, this package has covered many sectors. But the oppositions claim that this is not enough. Former finance minister P. Chidambaram said India needs at least 5 to 6 Lakh crore package to get out of this crisis situation.
