Covid-19: HC responds to PIL filed against exorbitant charges by hospitals

Admission to private hospitals for corona treatment has become a major issue in the recent times. Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan held a conference with private hospitals on this occasion too. Private hospitals are charging heavy amounts ranging in lakhs. In Telangana, such events are increasingly occurring with rising cases.

In this aspect, a public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed in Telangana High Court over covid-19 treatment charges in private hospitals by Lawyer Sri Kishan Sharma to take action against private and corporate hospitals for violating laws and mistreating patients with enormous charges.

The advocate filed the petition and appealed high court to make serious warning against all such private hospitals. Responding to the petition, HC addressed the sorry state of the patients and compelled the state governments to take severe action against the hospital management for flouting government orders and encashing in the dire times. It further questioned how Telangana state government would take action for hospitals charging exorbitantly.

Also the HC judiciary urged the state government to disclose what type of action it is going to take on this issue and asked to respond by 14th of this month. The petitioner notified the division bench, comprising Chief Justice Raghvendra Singh Chauhan and Justice B Vijaysen Reddy, that Maharashtra has imposed a maximum limit for claiming bills for private hospitals and insisted such rule to be introduced in Telangana too.
