Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh opined that India should not play Pakistan in the 12th edition of the cricket world cup. Harbhajan made this statement in the aftermath of the Pulwama attack that killed 42 CRPF soldiers on February 14th.
Backing his statement, Bajji said, “Indian team is very strong enough to win the World Cup even without having to play Pakistan. India should break all the cricketing ties with Pakistan and doesn’t need to revive any sort of sporting ties as a mark of respect for the armed force.”
Though cricket and sports are not that important than the bilateral relationship, Bajji stated that the martyrs sacrifices should not go waste. “Country comes first and we are all standing behind our country. Cricket or hockey or sports, it should be kept aside because this is a huge thing and repeatedly our soldiers are getting killed. This is a difficult time. The attack that has happened, it was unbelievable and it’s very wrong,” added he.
The BCCI has already broken all ties with Pakistan cricket board but it is helpless when it comes to playing the ICC hosted events. Sometime back ICC has accepted that it is deliberately making India and Pakistan play against each other in its events.
Harbhajan’s views can be given thought here but BCCI is the ultimate decision maker. India and Pakistan are scheduled to play on June 16th at Manchester.
