It looks like the stage is well set for comedian Ali’s political debut as the senior comedian has finally decided to contest from any assembly that Andhra Pradesh CM Nara Chandrababu Naidu will offer to him. And the actor has already agreed to one, say political observers.
Though TDP has earlier offered the Guntur MLA ticket to Ali, he is said to have demanded Rajahmundry (his native place) MLA ticket. But now, Ali is most likely to contest from East Guntur assembly constituency where the YSR Congress is exerting its stronghold.
In the 2014 election, actually, TDP lost this seat to the YSR Congress contestant Md Mustafa Shaik in a margin of 5,000 votes. At that time, many felt that the Muslim candidate fielded by Jagan got all the advantages over TDP’s Giridhara Rao. And now, the ruling party wants to field a Muslim here and hence Ali, they say. Already the movie actor is said to have rented a flat there and started building rapport with local cadres.
However, the only thing one has to be seen is, will Guntur East people vote a newcomer and a non-local to power here?
