EC stops the release of Modi’s biopic until the end of elections

The Election Commission has banned the screening of the biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi today. It said that any movie which showcase or has the potential to highlight a political party or an individual should not be displayed in electronic media until elections are completed i.e., on May 19.

The movie was supposed to be released tomorrow and the EC has now come up with a new order. Aso, the first phase of Lok Sabha elections starts tomorrow.

Just a couple of days ago, when the Congress activist filed a petition against the release of Modi’s biopic, the Supreme Court has dismissed it. During the time, the apex court said that the movie was premature as it was yet to be certified by the Censor Board and also court will not waste time on these non-issues.

Moreover, the court added that the EC will decide on the release stay of the film if it finds any favourable scenes towards the ruling party BLP. For now, the release has been extended as it may divert or influence viewers during polls period. Directed by Omung Kumar, actor Vivek Oberoi is seen playing the titular role.
