Whenever a film stares at an improbable success feat, the production house unleashes their PR machinery to create a strong buzz to get just not the business but also the crowds. Uppena launches Vaishnav Tej, sibling of Sai Dara Tej and his co star is newcomer Kriti Shetty.
It also marks the debut of Bucchi Babu Sana who is an assistant director to Sukumar. Though it is being publicised as being inspired by the honour killing of Pranay, a couple of years back in Miriyalaguda, the story seems to have been tweaked.
Instead of Maruthi Rao as the father, it is Vijay Sethupati who is the brother who opposes the relationship of his sister with a fisherman lad Vaishnav Tej. Instead of again hacking the youth with a machete, here the hero in a startling climax, is stripped, violated and his private parts severed.
The girl despite this wants to continue the relationship proving love is above any physicality and is sublime. Now Mythri Movie Makers did the same PR game of saying Karan Johar will be remaking Dear Comrade when Vijay Devaraknda’s film was about to release creating hopes and curiosity for the unsuspecting movie goer.
Once the film flopped, Karan Jahar did produce a film but he teamed up with Puri Jagannath for Fighter. Dear Comrade may be remade by Bharat Kamma because the remake rights are with him. Similarly, this film too which crossed the budget is estimated to be anywhere near 22 plus crore and seems a herculean task to recover.
The director too seems to be low on confidence as he kept stating right from the making of the film that this will be his first and last movie, maybe he is in the know of the result. The buzz is Tamil star Vijay’s son Sanjay is still learn acting and film making in Canada and not likely to return soon.
This film’s fate has to be first decided in the Telugu States before it reaches OTT and then the Tamil actor can decide if it is a perfect launch for his son. He will be extra careful as Vikram’s son’s debut, a remake of Arjun Reddy never clicked with all the hype.
