F2 Movie review

F2 has been making a lot of buzz with its fun promos. Venkatesh and Varun Tej teaming up with Anil Ravipudi, the director known for writing quirky comedy scenes promised a lot of fun. Let’s analyze if the film lived up to delivering the goods.

What is it about?

Venky (Venkatesh) is a frustrated husband who is fed up of his dominating wife Harika (Tamanna). His would be co-brother Varun (Varun Tej) also gets frustrated by his girlfriend (Honey). They both runaway to another country to have some fun and their ladies decide to teach them a lesson.

Performances:

Venkatesh stands as the main pillar of strength for F2 with his impeccable comedy timing. He just owns the show while the rest of cast including Varun Tej rallies around him. The veteran had a ball playing the character of Venky and it is super fun to watch him doing what he is best known for. Varun Tej also does a decent job in the comedy department. His Telangana accent is fine. He makes his presence felt in spite of Venkatesh’s dominating performance. Tamanna and Mehreen look ravishing and their performances are just fine. Rajendra Prasad has some fun moments here and there. Prakash Raj’s character is a bit unrealistic. Pragathi and Annapurna are good as Venky’s mother in law and her mother in law respectively.

Technicalities:

Anil Ravipudi’s films always had good comedy scenes in spite of the masala elements. This time he sticks with doing an out and out fun entertainer and he is largely successful in making F2 a fun watch. The situations he has created are very funny in the first hour. He made good use of Venkatesh’s capabilities in comedy scenes. However, Anil Ravipudi should have taken better care of second half that seems half baked and underwhelming to the most part.

Devi Sri Prasad has come up with mediocre tunes yet again. All he could do is compose a few hook lines and fill in the blanks with ordinary rhythms. There’s nothing much to write about the background score too. Editing is okay and cinematography is alright. Dialogues are fun in places. Production values are rich compared to recent Dil Raju’s outings.

Thumbs Up:

Venkatesh

Fun First Half

Heroines glam show

Thumbs Down:

A bit frustrating second half

Predictable climax

Analysis:

Anil Ravipudi’s choice of casting Venkatesh as one of the leads has turned out to be the biggest boon for F2. The veteran superstar is in fine form as the frustrated husband. His comic timing and dialogue delivery is very fun to watch. Venky runs the show in the first half and is ably supported by Varun Tej who also shines along by the side of the former. First half is full of fun moments which can be related by most of the married people. Anil Ravipudi didn’t have much substance on hands but uses his skills of creating fun to good effect.

First half is extremely hilarious and set high expectations on the post interval portions. However, the film takes a different route in the second half with husbands and wives plotting plans against each other. A few more characters are introduced into the narrative. Prakash Raj’s ideology seems very cinematic and convenient. But we cannot expect comedies to be logical. Although second half offers less fun it is okay to an extent. Climax is predictable with all characters ending up on a broken bridge.

F2 is not a perfect film but has good fun moments that can be relished by the festival audience. It will definitely get the thumbs up from family audiences and also the masses. You may get disappointed if you are expecting fresh story and polished screenplay. But Anil Ravipudi like always delivers a film that has enough to cross the line. F2 also has enough elements to score over the competition and therefore has chances to work well among the festival releases. Second half could have been better but the hilarious first half almost does the job for it.

Verdict: A Bit Frustrating, But Mostly Fun!
