Flashback: Blockbuster Dookudu inspired from Hollywood film

Superstar Mahesh Babu scored one of the biggest hits of his career with Dookudu which released exactly 9 years ago. This film has a special place in Mahesh’s filmography as it went on a stellar run at the box office and took him to the next league. Incidentally, Mahesh’s fans on social media are now celebrating the 9 year anniversary of Dookudu.

Coming to the topic, Dookudu was inspired from a Hollywood superhit named ‘Good Bye, Lenin!’. The film’s plot deals with a woman who falls into a coma and misses the Berlin revolution. After she recovers, the doctor’s advice her family members to keep her as happy as possible in order to avoid any medical complications. So, her son, along with her family members play along and go to extreme lengths to make her believe Berlin is still under communism leadership.

Srinu Vaitla made some subtle changes to this storyline to suit the sensibilities of native audience and replaced the woman’s character with Prakash Raj’s. The treatment is almost the same but the basic set-up is altered. Also, he induced the commerical angle by penning a powerful and witty role for Mahesh Babu, who takes on the goons who tried to assassinate his father.

Nevertheless, Dookudu was termed the biggest box office hits of the year 2011. It will forever remain to be a memorable film for Mahesh Babu, Srinu Vaitla, the producers, and everyone involved.
