Giving phones to girls is leading to rapes: UP Women’s Commission member

Uttar Pradesh Women’s Commission member Meena Kumari has made controversial remarks regarding girls. She made controversial remarks at an event regarding women in Aligarh. She opinioned that parents giving mobile phones to their girl child is leading to increasing in rapes in the society.

Meena Kumari appealed to parents to keep girls away from mobile phones. She said that first, the girls talk to the boys and then elope with them. Kumari made these remarks while responding to a query on the rise in rape cases in the state.

However, the UP Women’s Commission did not support Meena Kumari’s remarks. Anju Chowdhury, the vice-chairperson of the commission, said keeping girls away from phones was not the appropriate step to reduce the rapes rate in the country.
