eated debate in the Mahabubnagar TRS. The party has recently nominated singer-poet Goreti Venkanna as an MLC in the Governor’s quota.
Normally, there should be no controversy over such an appointment. After all, Goreti Venkanna is non-controversial and is well-respected too. His role in popularising Telangana cause is also never in doubt. But, the problem is with the internal politics of the TRS in Nagarkurnool district.
There are already two MLCs from the district. One is Kasireddy Narayana Reddy, who is a TRS loyalist all through. The other one is Kuchikulla Damodar Reddy, who has joined the TRS recently from the Congress. The term of both these MLCs is expiring early next year. Both these MLCs are now trying to get renominated to the legislative council. But, with Venkanna now becoming an MLC, the TRS top leadership might feel that three MLCs from one district is a case of one-too many and might drop at least one of them. This means, either Kasireddy or Kuchikulla may have to lose the post.
So both the leaders are now feeling upset over Goreti Venkanna’s ascent to the legislative council. They are now staring at an uncertain future.
