Has JP Nadda spoiled BJP chances in Presidential elections?

Has BJP national president JP Nadda jeopardised the chances of the party in the upcoming presidential elections by his utterances in Andhra Pradesh? After his “Throw out Jagan – bring BJP” slogan, can he seek YSRCP’s support for the BJP’s presidential candidate? Will the YSRCP oblige him?

Recently Nadda addressed a public meeting in Rajahmundry, where he gave the call to the people to throw out the YSRCP government. Political observers feel that this call could affect the ties between the BJP and the YSRCP. As of now, there is great bonhomie between both the parties, especially at the national level. The YSRCP has been quite supportive of the BJP in all its endeavours like removal of Article 370 and removal of triple talaq system. But Nadda’s recent comments could bring the whole edifice of cooperation.

It is an open secret that the BJP does not have the required numbers to get its nominee elected as the president of the nation. It requires the support of parties like Biju Janata Dal in Odisha and YSRCP in AP. The BJP has already held discussions with BJD’s Naveen Patnaik on this issue. So far, no such discussions were held with YS Jagan. Before the meeting could happen, Nadda spoiled the party by taking on the YSRCP head on.

Political watchers say that the YSRCP may not be in a position to support the BJP candidate openly after these comments, It may have to take a stand against the BJP. This is not to the advantage of the BJP, which desperately wants its candidate as the next president of the country if Modi has to have his way.
