Kollywood superstar Dhanush had acquired a Rolls Royce car back in 2015. The car was imported from a foreign country. He then filed a plea in the Madras High Court, asking for exemption from paying the tax for importing the car.
Incidentally, the case came to hearing in Madras High Court today. After assessing all the aspects of the case, the judge stated that the court can’t exempt Dhanush from paying the import tax.
“Commoners are paying taxes. Even a person filling Rs 50 rupees worth petrol is paying tax. Why cant VIPs like you pay taxes. Your imported cars should go on the roads which are constructed with the taxpayers’ money. You should definitely pay the import fee without fail,” the court asserted.
Dhanush’s attorney agreed to the court’s orders and affirmed that Dhanush will clear the pending import fee due by 9th August. Dhanush had already paid 50% of the import fee. He promised to pay the remaining fee by the above mentioned date.
