In Munugode, votes grow on palm trees

Votes, it seems, grow on palm trees in poll-bound Munugode assembly constituency. In an effort to woo the voters from the Goud community, the ruling TRS has devised an ingenious plan. The plan is to provide the Goud voters with dwarf palm trees that makes tapping the toddy easier. By doing this, the party hopes to garner the votes.

The TRS government had procured and stored the seeds of the dwarf varieties of palm at the Ghatkesar’s HMDA nursery. As many as 906 bags full of palm seeds have been readied up for distribution in Munugode. There are nearly 40000 Goud voters in Munugode and they play a crucial role in determining the winner and loser in the election. Hence the TRS is planning to woo the Goud voters.

The dwarf varieties group between 15 and 25 feet and since they are shorter than the native varieties, climbing up the tree and tapping become very easy. Hence, these dwarf varieties are much in demand among the toddy-tapper community. The TRS is planning to distribute the dwarf palm seeds among the Goud community within a week.

Sources say that the palm seeds have been procured from Nalanda and Bhagalpur districts. These trees grow widely in these two districts of Bihar. TRS MLA Boora Narsiah Goud has been entrusted with the responsibility of distributing the seeds among the people of the Goud community, according to sources.
