Not long ago, Telugu Desam Party national general secretary Nara Lokesh made it clear that he would not like to make any backdoor entry into the cabinet, but would rather prefer contesting the assembly elections in 2019.
This has given rise to the impression that he does not want to become an MLC and join the cabinet of his father chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu. So, everybody thought Lokesh would wait till 2019 elections.
So, it rather surprised everybody when Naidu declared a couple of days ago that he would induct his son into the cabinet very soon.
Apparently, he realised that the TDP might not win the assembly elections in 2019 and Lokesh might not be able to realise his dream of becoming a minister at least for another term or two.
So, Naidu wanted Lokesh to enter the cabinet through backdoor method only by becoming an MLC. However, there is still a chance for Lokesh to make front door entry by making one of the MLAs to resign and contest in the by-elections from his constituency.
But that is not so easy, as he has to choose an ideal constituency from where he can win comfortably and force the MLA to resign. Though a defected YSR Congress party MLA from Chittoor offered to resign from the post for the sake of Lokesh, it is not an easy seat for him to win in the by-elections.
So, the best way is to become an MLC and enjoy the cabinet post. There is also another way for Lokesh without disturbing anybody. He can be inducted into the cabinet now, but has to become an MLC or MLA within six months.
And as his term comes to a close by the end of six months, he can quit the post and be re-inducted into the cabinet again after a couple of days. Then, he can repeat the drama every six months till next elections. Howzzat?
