Are the “Karanam” politics are back in Telangana? The rnHyderabad-Rangareddy-Mahabubnagar Graduate MLC constituency elections isrn witnessing a battle between two Karanams. While BJP’s Naraparaju rnRamachander Rao is a Karanam, PV Narasimha Rao’s daughter Surabhi Vani rnDevi, who is the TRS candidate, too is a Karanam.
Finding that rnRamachandra Rao is a clear leader in the elections, the TRS has decided rnto field a Brahmin against him. It chose PV’s daughter Vani Devi. But, rnthe problem is Vani Devi is too old to campaign. In fact, she is said torn have told this to both KCR and KTR. Due to age and health reasons, she rnmay not be able to tour all the three districts. So, the TRS has decidedrn to involve all its cadre and leaders to campaign for her. TRS working rnpresident KTR on Tuesday held a meeting with the party leaders, MLAs andrn municipal level leaders of the party and asked them to appoint one rnincharge for every 50 votes.
Insiders say the TRS has a Plan B rnalso. If the winds are not blowing favourably, it will at the last rnmoment shift its votes to Left-backed Prof. Nageshwar. They argue that rnVani Devi is only a façade or a front and the party will work for Prof. rnNageshwar only.
