Is SEC letter to Centre fake?

A letter purported to have been written by Andhra Pradesh state election commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar to Union home secretary on Wednesday seeking security by Central security forces for him and his family members from attacks by “ruling party goons” has created ripples in the political and media circles.

The letter was leaked to the media in which Ramesh Kumar used very strong words and made direct attack on YSR Congress party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and his party leaders who, he said, had been threatening him for postponing the local body elections.

Within half an hour of the letter created a sensation, there were reports in the media that the letter could be fake. According to sources, the tone and tenor of the letter indicates it might not have been written by Ramesh Kumar.

“He might be anguished with the abuses being hurled at him by the YSRC leaders, including chief minister, but he would not make any such derogatory comments against Jagan and others, since it would prove their allegations (that he is a mole of TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu) true,” an analyst said.

Moreover, Ramesh Kumar would not dare make comments like: “Looking at the intolerant face of the top leadership of the present dispensation and their faction ridden background and known vindictive nature, I have come to the painful conclusion that my safety and my family’s safety is in great peril.”

Being a bureaucrat himself till recently, Ramesh Kumar would know his limitations.

“Yet, it is better the SEC himself should deny having written such a letter. Otherwise, people would definitely believe that it was his letter,” the analyst said.
