Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has been trying to be a different politician from the day he launched his party 10 years ago.
He had set some rules for other leaders to join his party and they must quit their positions, including elected positions, to join his party.
He is not encouraging defections trying to set some value-based politics. It is for this reason he did not encourage defections from the TDP in Assembly and Legislative Council.
It is for this he did not make an attempt to correct the officers in bureaucracy to toe his line. He spared several offices who have been leaking information to the Opposition.
It is for this reason he did not make any attempt to influence the judiciary. He allowed the courts to pass hard remarks against his government. He did not build his team in the law department to counter the opposition in the courts.
He did not make any attempt to be available to the media, other than his own Sakshi group.
He is not available to the national media in the last nine months nor allowed his media advisors to reach out to the media.
Winning the Legislature alone with thumping majority proved that all is not well, if the judiciary, bureaucracy and media are ignored.
Jagan Mohan Reddy should have spread his strong arms to these wings of democracy too while consolidating his seat with the strong majority he had in Legislature.
He failed in recognizing the importance of the other three wings of democracy and he is paying the price now.
He also failed to make an assessment of his enemy or rival who has mastered in maintaining a balance among all the four wings of democracy.
Though the TDP chief had lost Legislature, he is still strong in executive, judiciary and media and that is where he is winning every battle and Jaganmohan Reddy is losing it.
There is not a single day that goes without the judiciary passing adverse remarks against the government. There is not a single column or slot in the media that is not scripted against his government. There is not a single department in executive that is sincere and loyal to the government.
It is high time that Jagan Mohan Reddy realise that executive, judiciary and media are equally important to his unquestionable strength in Legislature.
It is also important to further weaken his political rivals, even if it matters to engineering defections.
Jagan should remember the old say, “Be a Roman when you are in Rome.”
