Bollywood Baadshah Shah Rukh Khan’s last outing ‘Jawan’ was a massive success at the box office. Directed by Atlee, the movie collected more than 1100 crores and the North audience were floored by how Atlee presented Shah Rukh Khan in the most larger-than-life way possible. After completing its theatrical run, the film arrived on Netflix. It started streaming on November 2nd and SRK is showing his magic on the OTT platform as well.
The movie made a massive debut on Netflix as it clocked a record 14.9 million viewing hours in less than a week. This is quite huge and it even crossed 5.2 million views in the same timeframe which in itself is another record. By the end of one week, the movie is expected to break the record set by Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ which registered 18.4 million viewing hours in one week. Fans are jumping in joy and SRK’s film is all set to become the biggest Indian opener in Netflix and go on to register even bigger numbers.
A lot of people on the internet are playing down what ‘RRR’ managed to get in order to elevate ‘Jawan’. While it can be understood that these numbers show the craze of SRK, one needs to understand that ‘RRR’ is made available on multiple platforms. Netflix only had the Hindi version while ZEE5 and Disney + Hotstar streamed ‘RRR’ in all the South Indian languages. This means that the viewers were split across the three OTT platforms and considering what the dubbed Hindi version of ‘RRR’ got on Netflix, ‘Jawan’ could never achieve that.
Also, the majority of the audience who watched ‘Jawan’ were from India while ‘RRR’ was watched on Netflix by a lot of international crowd. The movie got a lot of international acclaim and it was trending on Netflix for many weeks as people from across the globe watched Rajamouli’s epic and loved it. It is unfair to compare ‘Jawan’ with ‘RRR’ as both are quite unique but people can happily enjoy both without unnecessary debates.
