The four convicts in the Nirbhaya gang rape were hanged to death at 5:30 this morning in Tihar jail. Mother of Nirbhaya in her first reaction said though justice got delayed it was eventually delivered.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi too made a statement but indirectly. “Justice has prevailed. It is of utmost importance to ensure dignity and safety of women. Our Nari Shakti has excelled in every field. Together, we have to build a nation where the focus is on women empowerment, where there is emphasis on equality and opportunity,” tweeted Modi.
Here Modi nowhere mention about the rape or took out Nirbhaya’s name.
Another Union minister Smirit Irani said “Justice was delayed but it has finally been delivered. This is a message to all those who think they can commit crimes against women and escape the law” speaking to the media at Parliament premises.
