Kamal Haasan, an actor turned politician from Tamil Nadu, has been dominating the headlines since Monday morning. Following his controversial comments referring to ‘Hindu terrorism’, as part of the election campaign at Aravakurichi, BJP supporters and Hindu groups have launched a serious attack on him.
The chief of Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) has, on Sunday night, said Independent India’s first terrorist was a Hindu and his name is Nathuram Godse, who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi. Besides emerging as a big debate on national channels and social media, Kamal’s remark attracted reactions from Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi, Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Telangana BJP MLA Raja Singh, Tamil Nadu minister KT Rajenthra Bhala and many others.
Minister KT Rajendra Bhala went a step ahead and said Kamal’s tongue should be chopped off for his controversial comment and demanded Election Commission to take a serious action on him. Vivek Oberoi, who is playing PM Modi in his biopic, said: “Dear Kamal sir, you are a great artist. Just like art has no religion, terror has no religion either! You can say Ghodse was a terrorist, why would you specify ‘Hindu’ ? Is it because you were in a Muslim dominated area looking for votes?”
With the growing attack on Kamal Haasan, the MNM party dismissed charges against their chief and stated ‘the issue should be handled with sense and not be sensationalised’.
