There are three big films releasing on 3rd June. Akshay Kumar’s ‘Prithviraj’ is being heavily promoted in the North and it managed to generate decent buzz in the major across South India too. The other film is Adivi Sesh’s ‘Major’. This biographical drama has generated huge buzz across the nation with its theatrical trailer. Being the story of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan who sacrificed his life during the ’26/11 Mumbai Attacks’ in 2008, everyone in this country is emotionally connected to this story. Also, the filmmakers have organized special screenings in some cities and response the got from them was phenomenal.
The third film is legendary actor Kamal Hassan’s ‘Vikram’. This film is directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj who delivered hits like ‘Khaidi’ and ‘Master’. Apart from Kamal, versatile actors Vijay Sethupathi and Fahadh Fasil are also a part of this gangster drama. Kamal Hassan officially confirmed that star hero Suriya will be seen in a special cameo. The star cast itself should be enough to create an enormous buzz on this movie. But it is not the case with ‘Vikram’ in Telugu states.
While the trailer looked impressive, most of the audience are unaware of the release date. Usually, Kamal Hassan’s films release with a lot of buzz but it is not the reality with Vikram. As we know, the last few films of Kamal Hassan ended up being failures at the box office. He took ‘Vikram’ very seriously and started promoting it aggressively in Tamil Nadu and Hindi. He went Cannes Film Festival and even attended the popular ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ for promotions. But the team is not at all focusing on the Telugu market which is vital for Tamil films. What is more amusing is the fact that only Kamal Hassan is promoting the film while the rest of the cast are not at all taking part in it.
Die-hard fans of Kamal Hassan in the Telugu states are a bit worried about the lack of buzz and promotions for ‘Vikram’. The team organized a pre-release event at Shilpakala Vedika on 31st May and invited Victory Venkatesh as the Chief Guest. Let us wait and see if the film managed to generate any buzz after this event or not.
