Kejriwal government to move Supreme Court over GNCTD Bill

The Parliament passing the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill on Wednesday, has created an uproar in the Rajya Sabha with the opposition as many as several parties walking out of the House.

Soon after the bill was passed in Rajya Sabha, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said it was a sad day for democracy and stressed that his fight to restore power to the people would continue.

Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party is planning to move the Supreme Court against the bill. The AAP alleged that it was an undemocratic attempt to make the Delhi government administratively impotent by a political party that has been made electorally impotent by the people of the national capital.

The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2021 makes it mandatory for the Delhi government to take the opinion of the lieutenant governor (L-G) before any executive action.
