Kerala’s Black Sand Documentary Qualified For Oscars 2021

This year, several films are in the race for Oscars 2021. While Malayalam film Jallikattu was out of the fight, Suriya’s much appreciated Tamil film Soorarai Pottru is still in the running.

Another proud moment for India that Kerala Documentary, ‘Black Sand’, directed by Sohan Roy has qualified for 2021 Oscar awards under the Documentary Short Category section. It was produced by Abhini Sohan Roy under the banner of Aries telecasting Pvt. Ltd.

In a statement issued by the company, it said ‘Black Sand’ is one of the 114 movies that got chosen into this category. The documentary tells the terror caused by the irrevocable damage caused by sand mining at Alappad in Kollam district. The documentary has indeed achieved a milestone by qualifying for the 93rd Academy Awards.

Black Sand has also been selected for Rajasthan International Film Festival 2021, which is scheduled to happen between March 20 and 24 at Jaipur.
