At last, senior YSR Congress party leader and widow of Telugu Desam Party founder and former chief minister N T Rama Rao has been rewarded for her unflinching loyalty to chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.
More than five months after assuming charge, Jagan on Wednesday appointed her as the chairperson of Andhra Pradesh Telugu Academy. A Government Order to this effect was released in the evening.
Lakshmi Parvathi has been holding the post of general secretary in the party. Though she was interested in active politics, she could not get any party ticket in the recent assembly elections, but Jagan had promised to take care of her interests.
She patiently waited for Jagan to acknowledge her loyalty to the party without grumbling and had been occasionally appearing in the press conferences to attack TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu and Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan.
Once a de facto chief minister when NTR became the chief minister of combined Andhra Pradesh in 1994, Lakshmi Parvathi had become the main reason for the coup in the TDP by Chandrababu Naidu which culminated in the death of NTR.
Later, she floated NTR Telugu Desam Party and became an MLA from Vizianagaram district. Subsequently, she faded out in Andhra politics and lost all his followers.
After YSR Congress party was founded, Lakshmi Parvati wound up her party and joined hands with Jagan unconditionally with the sole objective of pulling down Naidu from power and she finally succeeded.
