“Local” trouble for TRS in Nagarjunasagar

The TRS is still burning its midnight oil over choosing its candidate for the Nagarjunasagar bypolls. With Jana Reddy planning to stand the election as a Congress candidate and with a resurgent BJP to contend with, the TRS realizes that it would not be a cakewalk in Nagarjunasagar. So, choosing the right candidate becomes very important for the TRS.

A strong section of the party is strongly opposing the candidature of Nomula Narsimaiah’s son Bharat. Even those who had initially announced their support are now questioning the rationale behind giving ticket to Bharat. They say that he is essentially an outsider to Nagarjunasagar. They have reportedly petitioned to the party high command that it should nominate a local leader as the party candidate.

Interestingly, even Nomula Narsimhaiah faced this problem. When he was given the party ticket in 2014, a strong section worked against him. Eventually, he lost the elections He had won in 2018 elections and became an MLA. Now, his son too seems to be facing the same problem. Whether the TRS leadership shows the gumption to take on the local leadership of will it succumb? Does it have an alternative name for the MLA nominee? We may have to wait for some more time to get answers to these questions.
