What would be the immediate impact of the staggering electoral performance of the ruling YSRCP in the municipal elections? The immediate impact without doubt would be on the Tirupati MP by-election. If the municipal poll results are any indication, the TDP would be completely routed and the Jana Sena-BJP combine would get less than 3 per cent votes. The victory of the YSRCP would be decisive.
In the municipal elections, the results of which were announced on Sunday, the YSRCP has got huge majority in Tirupati municipal corporation. It has also registered impressive victories in Sullurpet, Naidupet and Venkatagiri in Nellore district. Even in the panchayat elections, the YSRCP had recorded great victory. In the Tirupati corporation elections, the YSRCP had bagged 22 divisions unopposed. In the 27 wards where elections were conducted, the party goet 47,745 votes, while the TDP could get just 18712 votes. In Sullurpet too, 14 YSRCP councillors were elected unanimously. There were elections in 11 wards. In these 11 wards, the YSRCP got 6000 votes, while the TDP got 2380 votes. IN Naidupet too the same story was repeated. In Venkatagiri, where there were elections to 22 wards, the TDP got 8369 votes, while the YSRCP got 16883 votes.
If the same trend continues, the TDP might even lose its security deposit in the Tirupati bypolls. Sources say that the TDP stock will go down further in the coming days and the YSRCP might become correspondingly stronger.
