Milk Price is Costlier Than Petrol There

In a shocking development, the milk price in Pakistan has surpassed the cost of petrol and diesel. As Muharram was celebrated, the cost of milk has shot up due to its huge demand. The milk was sold at whopping Rs 140 per litre in Karachi and other major cities of Pakistan.

While Petrol is priced at Rs 113 per litre and diesel was priced at Rs 91 per litre, milk surpassed and was sold between Rs 120 per litre and Rs 140 per litre depending on the city. In parts of Sindh province, it was sold for Rs 140 per litre.

During Muharram, Sabeels (stalls) were set up in different parts of the city to offer milk, juices and cold water to the participants of the holy month’s processions. For this, there is a huge demand for milk. Due to the sharp increase in demand, the milk prices have shot up and touched new high. Residents of Karachi, Sindh have rued that they have never seen such huge price for milk in their lifetime.

However, the official price of milk put by the Commissioner’s office is Rs 94 a litre. According to media reports from Karachi, Karachi commissioner Iftikhar Shallwani, who is responsible for controlling the price of milk, couldn’t do anything about the exorbitant rates at which milk is being sold.
