Movie Unsold. Big Gamble by Producers

Of late, producers are not taking much risk and selling the theatrical rights of their films to distributors outright or sharing-basis prior to film’s release. Especially, the trend is followed by big-budget films who’re investing big monies while it’s slowly catching up with small and medium-budget filmmakers who are tempted to pocket profits much before the film’s release.

However, defying this, the makers of Ghazi have not sold the film’s theatrical rights neither in Telugu, Tamil or Hindi and has released the film on their own. Both Matinee Entertainment and PVP Cinema have not sold the film despite getting good pre-release buzz for the film. Even in Hindi, the film is being distributed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions as part of the understanding and producers themselves are ready to take the risk.

Not just domestic market. The producers haven’t sold the film’s rights in US and overseas markets as well. By releasing on own, makers are playing big gamble. Also, the film’s satellite rights weren’t sold and put the talks on hold as makers are waiting for the film’s release.

This is not all. Even film’s premieres are being screened in all major cities for the past few days. Nonetheless, there is no guarantee of a film clicking at box office, though it is lauded by critics and a section of audiences. Still, the makers choose to release on their own.

When contacted, sources close to production house clarified that the makers are confident on the final product and decided to go for own release.
