Taapsee Pannu and Akshay Kumar-starrer Naam Shabana was off to an average start at the box office, despite being associated with the successful Baby and having virtually no competition at the box office. After making Rs 23.80 crore in the first five days, the film reportedly made Rs 2 crore on Wednesday.
Until Vidya Balan-starrer Begum Jaan releases on April 14, Naam Shabana has a clear path ahead to mint money. However, it is still significantly lagging behind its predecessor, Baby, which had made Rs 36.07 crore in the opening weekend itself.
Here is the day-to-day breakdown of Naam Shabana box-office collection:
Day 1 – Friday (March 31) – Rs 5.12 crore
Day 2 – Saturday (April 1) – Rs 6.37 crore
Day 3 – Sunday (April 2) – Rs 7.27 crore
Day 4 – Monday (April 3) – Rs 2.54 crore
Day 5 – Tuesday (April 4) – Rs 2.50 crore
Day 6 – Wednesday (April 5) – Rs 2 crore (appoximate)
Naam Shabana revolves around Shabana Khan (Taapsee Pannu), who was seen in Baby in a brief, but pivotal role. This film traces the making of a spy – how she is spotted among the millions of others, and how she transforms from an aloof college student to a lethal secret agent.
Akshay Kumar reprises his role as Ajay Singh Rajput and is seen in the film in an extended cameo. Other cast members include Anupam Kher, Manoj Bajpayee and Malayalam superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran, who plays the prime antagonist.
It remains to be seen if Naam Shabana manages to be the slow and steady tortoise and become the fifth film to enter the Rs 100 crore club this year, after Raees, Kaabil, Jolly LLB 2 and Badrinath Ki Dulhania.
